We all know that the current health insurance system is badly broken, overly expensive, inefficient and indifferent to the delivery of quality healthcare. Health care costs are growing at more than twice the rate of our economy. This is an unsustainable trajectory, and something MUST be done. We need a simple, affordable and accessible solution, and we need it quickly.
We are headed in the right direction, and we are committed to ensuring that the next steps to universal reform happen. Vermont has been, and will continue to be a leader in America’s Health Care revolution. Governor Shumlin has already signed the law – we simply need to work together to make a system that works for everyone!
Vermont is a state of innovators and doers. Surely, we can create a system that works better, and is cheaper than what is already in place. We’re already on our way to doing it. Universal reform is a Vermont solution. It is thrifty, pragmatic and fair.
In the coming months, we’ll be working across the state to dispel myths about universal reform and to ensure that Vermonters' voices are heard when it comes to our need for a new health care solution, and our faith in the Governor and the legislature to get us there.
The Vermont Coalition for Universal Reform (The CURE) was created to develop and drive an independent campaign for universal access and the implementation of a Vermont-specific, single-payer, health-care-system called “Green Mountain Care.” Our mission is the creation of a publicly funded Vermont health care system that recognizes the needs of patients, providers and taxpayers that is simple, affordable, accessible and portable.
